Overview
FRANKFURT AM MAIN, Germany — March 17, 2026 — Techtextil 2026, the world’s leading trade fair for technical textiles and functional apparel, opened this week with a strong focus on performance-driven innovation. The Performance Apparel Textiles area in Hall 9.0 showcased around 130 exhibitors from 13 countries presenting cutting-edge materials for workwear, protective clothing, smart fashion, outdoor gear and sports apparel.
Global industry players including Concordia Textiles, Getzner, Kermel, Klopman International and YKK Europe participated in the exhibition. The event underscores growing demand for high-performance textile solutions that combine functionality, sustainability and fashion.
Performance Apparel on Stage
The live showcase “Performance Apparels on Stage” brought forward-looking wearables to the foreground, demonstrating textile innovations where they matter most: in real-world applications. An independent expert jury evaluated exhibits across categories including UV protection, heat and flame protection, circular materials, thermoregulation and integrated lighting technology.
“What impressed me most about the submitted products was how consistently new functionalities are linked with a more holistic understanding of sustainability — taking into account aspects such as wearing comfort, durability, repairability and easy-care properties,” said Wolfgang Quednau of BTTA, one of the jury members.
Key Textile Innovations
Several notable innovations stood out at this year’s exhibition:
- loopamid by BASF and Fulgar: A GRS-certified polyamide made from textile waste for closed material cycles, marking progress toward circular textile production.
- ECOlastic Workwear: Recyclable, stretchable high-visibility fabrics with high shape stability and wash resistance.
- Karl Mayer UV Protection Jacket: Warp-knitted design achieving SPF 50+ without chemical finishing.
- 3D-Knitted Illuminated Backpack: Light fibres integrated into a knit-to-shape structure produced with near-zero waste.
- Freeze Tech Alpha: Cooling print technology combined with temperature-regulating fibres and heat-reflective components.
- COOL.SKIN with Outlast: Encapsulated phase-change materials ensuring stable microclimate regulation.
- PBI GOLD SHIELD: Lightweight, highly durable PBI aramid fabric for demanding industrial applications.
Texprocess, held concurrently in Hall 8.0, showcased textile processing technologies and demonstrated how innovations can be efficiently scaled into production — from automated processes to AI-supported manufacturing. The convergence of precision tailoring tools with advanced functional textiles signals a new era for apparel manufacturing worldwide.
